In Vedic Sanatan Dharma, copulation in the institution of marriage as per righteous conduct has been compared to a Yadnya karma (spiritual deed, like a spiritual oblation given to Fire God), because it leads to the birth of offsprings, which sustains the process of creation; hence, in scriptures a righteous householder has been placed on a high pedestal.
