A CRPF man was killed after militants opened fire on a CRPF camp in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Sunday. An encounter erupted after security forces chased the militants.
Head Constable Chandrika Prasad was hit when the militants attacked the CRPF camp at Kakapora area in Pulwama.
“The attack was successfully repulsed by the security forces. However, in the terror attack, head constable Prasad initially sustained injuries. He was subsequently shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment where he succumbed to his injuries and attained martyrdom,” said a police spokesman.
The spokesman said that as the militants were trying to escape after the attack, security forces immediately cordoned off the area and started search.
Earlier, two militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Shopian district of south Kashmir on Sunday morning.
The police spokesman said that based on inputs, a cordon and search operation was launched by police and security forces at dawn in Rebban area of Zainapora in Shopian district. Militants fired at the search team, who retaliated.
“In the ensuing encounter, two terrorists were killed,” he said, adding that the bodies have been retrieved.
Police said that the two militants were locals identified as Nawaz Wagay of Zainpora and Yawar Wani of Litter Pulwama.
“Both were affiliated with proscribed terror outfit Al-Badr. Incriminating materials including arms & ammunition recovered. @JmuKmrPolice @Sandeep_IPS_JKP,” Kashmir police said in a tweet.
