प्राप्तव्यमर्थं लभते मनुष्यो l देवोऽपि तं लङ्घयितुं न शक्तः ll तस्मान्न शोचामि न विस्मयो मे l यदस्मदीयं न हि तत्परेषाम् ll Meaning: Even deities cannot change whatever one is destined to get. That is why I do not get either disappointed or surprised. No one else can take whatever is mine.
कुसुमस्तबकस्येव द्वयीवृत्तिर्मनस्विनः। मूर्ध्नि वा सर्वलोकस्य विशीर्येत वनेऽथवा॥ Meaning: Like a flower, great men have only two ways, either they shine on top of everyone or decay unnoticed in the forest.
जलान्तश्चन्द्रचपलं जीवनं खलु देहिनाम् | तथाविधिमिति त्वाशाश्वत्कल्याणमाचरेत् || Meaning: Life of a man is like a shaky reflection of moon in the water (is very short, and unstable). Knowing this, humans should always keep on doing a long lasting work that benefits the society.
तस्मात् कौन्तेय विदुषा धर्माधर्मविनिश्चये । बुद्धिमास्थामय लोकेऽस्मिेन् वर्तितव्यंच कृतात्मrना ।। Meaning: Hence, O son of Kunti, a wise man should behave in this world using his intellect to discriminate between what is right (Righteousness) and wrong (unrighteousness).
यथा धेनुसहस्त्रेषु वत्सो विन्दति मातरम् । तथा पूर्वकृतं कर्म कर्तारं विन्दते ध्रुवम् ।। Meaning: Just as a calf finds its mother in a herd of a thousand cows so also past actions (karma) find exactly the one (embodied soul) who has performed it in the previous birth.
यन्निमित्तं भवेच्छोकस्तापो वा दु:खमेव च । आयासो वा यतो मूलमेकाङ्गमपि तत्त्यजेत् ।। Meaning: The reason behind suffering and misery must be abandoned, even if it is a part of the body!
अष्टादश पुराणानि धर्मशास्त्राणि सर्वश: । वेदा: साङ्गास्तमथैकत्र भारतं चैकत: स्थितम् ।। Meaning: The eighteen Purans, all the scriptures (Smrutis) and the Vedas, with their parts are on one side and Bharat (ancient India) on the other. (Such was the prowess of ancient Bharat).
न तत्सुखं सुरेन्द्रस्य न सुखं चक्रवर्तिनाम् । यत्सुखं वीतरागस्य मुनेरेकान्तवासिनः ।। Meaning: The bliss of a saint living a life of solitude, free of all attachments, is more than that of deities like Indra, emperors and powerful rulers.
