Terrorist who became solider, killed in anti-terrorist operation

Lance Naik Nazir Ahmad Wani, the solider died in counter terrorist operation Sophian district on Sunday, in which six terrorists were killed.

Wani was once Ikhwan a terrorist who surrender and becomes involved in counter insurgency operations. He was shot and injured during an anti-terror operation at Batagund village in Shopian.

He was highly decorated solider and was awarded the Sena Medal for gallantry in August, 2007 and bar to the Sena Medal in August this year. He belongs to Cheki Ashmuji village in Kulgam tehsil in the terror infested Kashmir district Kulgam.

He initiated his career with Territorial Army’s 162 Battalion in 2004. His native village is one of villages which are surrounded by areas like Koinmooh, which are notorious for terrorist activities.

He received 21- gun salute on Monday as his body lowered to grave. Earlier his body taken to his native village and given to his family.
