Following the obscene and vulgar antics of the coronavirus suspects from the Tablighi Jamaat who had visited the Nizamuddin Markaz, which disturbed the medical fraternity and citizenry alike across the country, the government has decided to move these people to jails. While a team of the Indian Army has been called to Delhi’s Narela isolation centre to deal with misdemeanour deposits, the Uttar Pradesh government has begun preparing isolation centres in jails for the Tablighis at the Ghaziabad quarantine centre.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued instructions for action on such miscreants under the National Security Act (NSA). Sources say the Tablighis who stripped and flashed their private parts before nurses at the quarantine centre in Ghaziabad yesterday will be prosecuted under the NSA.
At the District MMG Hospital in Ghaziabad, the Tablighis had crossed all limits of decency. CMO of Ghaziabad Dr NK Gupta said his department had received complaints about the commotion by Tablighis. The health department is filing a report.
Simultaneously, the Yogi government has asked the police and jail administrations to separate some wards in jails as isolation centres, as the health of existing inmates cannot be risked.
Tablighis stripped before nurses
The nurses that were put through the vulgar show by quarantined Muslims are reportedly experiencing psychological trauma. The hospital management says that the Tablighis are not following the rules of isolation. They are mistreating the staff. “Yesterday, they stripped before some nurses and spat at the doctors,” a doctor said.
“When the nurses told them there were bathrooms in the corridor if they wished to change clothes, they abused the nurses,” another doctor said.
The hospital management has complained to the CMO in this regard. The CMO says that he has referred the matter to the police. “If these people do not behave, a report will be lodged against them,” he said.
Similar behaviour was reported from two quarantine centres in Delhi yesterday and the day before. While the exercise of isolating the Tablighis began on 1 April, they began misbehaving at the quarantine centres from the morning of 2 April onwards.
No woman in quarantine centres henceforth: Order
After the incident of sexual harassment by Tablighis, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed that no woman should be posted at the hospitals to look after the inmates. “I will not tolerate incidents like Indore in Uttar Pradesh,” Yogi said.
The comment was made in the context of Muslims attacking healthcare workers in Madhya Pradesh on 1 April after which Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was provoked to say, “Human rights are for humans. These are animals.”
“We’d been working on screening of contacts for the last four days. But what we saw yesterday we’d not seen earlier. We sustained injuries but we have to do our job and will not be scared,” a doctor said on 2 April after she was injured in an incident of stone-pelting by locals in Indore’s Tatpatti Bakhal area.
Police deployed
Police have been deployed outside the Ghaziabad ward following reports of violence and vulgarity by Tablighis in the isolation ward of the District MMG Hospital. CMS of the hospital Dr Ravindra Rana said that the family members of the patients had been asked to urge the inmates to improve their behaviour, “but the family members themselves were no less indecent”.
“If in the future these people are abusive, we will lodge a report against them,” Dr Rana said.
The CMS reported that none of the Tablighis at the Ghaziabad centre had symptoms. There is no complaint of any ruckus by the five Tablighis in the combined hospital.
Those inside the ward created at Sundardeep College were not following the rules. Now, police have been deployed outside that ward too.
