President Trump is all set to sign significant executive orders starting Wednesday. Its is being said the orders will include a temporary ban on most refugees and a suspension of visas for citizens of Syria and six other Middle Eastern and African predominanatly Muslim countries.
It is being expected that Trump will order a multi-month ban on allowing refugees into the United States
Trump had also tweeted on Tuesday night that a “big day” was planned on national security on Wednesday-
The only exception to this order will be people from religious minorities, especially Christians, escaping persecution.
The order which is going to create a wave in Muslim countries will be the one to bock visas to anyone from Syria, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.
Stephen Legomsky, chief counsel at US Citizenship and Immigration Services in the Obama administration, has clarified that the president had the authority to limit refugee admissions and the issuance of visas to specific countries. Provided it was done for the best interest of the public.
It should be recalled that on his campaign trail trump had proposed a temporary ban on Muslims entering the United States. The statement itself had created enormous uproar.
Since coming to office, Trump and nominee for attorney general, US Senator Jeff Sessions, have maintained that they would focus the restrictions on countries whose migrants could pose a threat and avoid banning people of a specific religion.
It seems that Trump is no mood to bend rules and will go ahead and do what he had proposed in his campaign trail. The new orders might include restrictions on new visas and refusal of entry to visa holders returning to the US.
If Trump actually passes this order, it will be a first of many other controversial executive decisions that he might take in the future.
