Six militants were killed in a major boost to anti-terror operation, following a brief gunfight in Tral area of Awantipora of Pulwama district today morning. A joint team of army’s 42 RR, SOG and CRPF and other security officials launched a search operation post learning the presence of 6 militants in the Arampora hamlet of Dadsara, killing all of them roundly. An aide of Zakir Moosa, one of Kashmir’s most wanted terrorist, was also killed in the operation.
“During the course of the gunfight, six militants of Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind militant outfit including its Deputy Chief Soliha have been killed”, reported the official. Some warning shots were fired initially towards the militant hideout situated in an orchard along the Tral-Awantipora road. The group hiding inside the hideout began open firing triggering off a gunfight which lasted along.
The bodies of all the slain militants along with as many weapons and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the gunfight site, said the official, adding: “The identities of the other five militants is being ascertained”.
Zakir Moosa, one of the former commander of Hizbul Mujahideen, was the head of al Qaeda-linked group Ansar Ghazwat-ul Hind, which is said to have links to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). He was one of the most wanted terrorists currently operating in the valley. In November, Punjab was put on high alert after he was spotted near Amritsar. Posters of Zakir Moosa were put up across the state following inputs that he along with seven members of the terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed were believed to be sighted in Ferozepur.
