Section 144 imposed in Jammu ahead of VHP’s sponsored Amarnath yatra


JAMMU : District administration today imposed Section 144 of CrPC in view of parallel Amarnath Yatra sponsored by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) starting tomorrow against Government’s proposed official date of June 25.

District Magistrate Sanjeev Verma, in a statement, issued here, has warned the public at large of undertaking yatra to holy cave of Shri Amarnath from Jammu before the stipulated date of June 25.

“Restrictive measures against such individuals or groups would be initiated,” the DM said adding that as per reports the weather conditions along the track was not favourable for undertaking the yatra.

He has appealed to civil society and religious organisations for not proceeding to holy cave before officially announced date by the SASB (Shri Amarnath Shrine Board).

In prohibiting the movement of pilgrims in large group, the District Magistrate said measures have been taken to halt of the pilgrims to the district.

Meanwhile, the District Magistrate also held various meetings with members of civil societies, socio-cultural and religious organisations to deliver on this matter for not undertaking onward journey to Shri Amarnath Cave Shrine before June 25.
