TIRUMALA: The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) on Saturday lodged a complaint against 30 employees manning the laddu counters after the vigilance and security wing busted the biggest-ever laddu scam in Tirumala.
Confirming the development to TOI, chief vigilance and security officer-in-charge, T Siva Kumar Reddy said the vigilance inquiry had brought to light that 26,000 laddus worth around Rs 14 lakh were carted away by the counters’ employees during the recent Navaratri Brahmotsavams.
Taking advantage of the instructions from the TTD top brass to issue manual tokens instead of the regular scanning system for giving of laddus to devotees during the Garuda Seva, the staff at Laddu Prasadam Ticket (LPT) counters recorded the manual token reference numbers and later scanned the same numbers after two days. They drew about 26,000 laddus additionally by resorting to duplication and then sold them in the black market at exorbitant rate.
However, the vigilance and security wing busted the scam and reported that about 100 people on duty at the counters were involved.
After TTD EO A K Singhal directed the vigilance wing to initiate stern action against all those involved, a complaint was lodged against 30 laddu counter staff in the first phase. The vigilance wing has lodged a complaint with the Tirumala One Town police.
