Members of Kumaraswamy’s government have reportedly backed Siddaramaiah for the Karnataka chief minister’s post. Siddaramaiah was CM before the state election last May, after which the Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) formed a coalition government.
arnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy thinks Congress state lawmakers who say Siddaramaiah should be chief minister are “crossing the line” and that the party should control its MLAs.
But he also said on Monday that he was ready to step down.
Meanwhile Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara said Siddaramaiah has been the “best CM”.
He pointed out that Siddaramaiah was the Congress’s legislature party leader, and that “for the MLA, he is the CM”. He asked what was wrong in expressing this opinion.
A leading daily reported on Sunday that “senior leaders” in HD Kumaraswamy’s government, “including senior ministers” had backed Siddaramaiah for the chief minister’s post.
For me, Siddaramaiah is always the chief minister. I am indebted to him,” Backward Classes Welfare Minister C Puttaranga Shetty was quoted as saying by the Deccan Chronicle.
