UP: Rape victim commits suicide in Gonda after accused get clean chit

Gonda: Rape victim allegedly committed suicide after she didn’t get justice. Husband of the rape victim says, “Police didn’t conduct a thorough investigation, she didn’t get justice.”SP Gonda says, “Further probe will be conducted, 2 police personnel have been suspended” (14 Jan)

The victim’s husband further added, “The accused had not just raped her but also made a video clip of the act. She was very upset when police gave the accused a clean chit, and so committed suicide.”

The incident happened 15 days after the two rape accused got a clean chit from district police.

The rape victim is a mother of two. Last year in September, the woman along with her husband had tried self-immolation outside Vidhan Bhawan in Lucknow to show her plight.

Both the accused are of Kernalganj area. The victim had accused Shankar Dayal and his brother Ashok Kumar of raping her several times in August last year.

The case was initially investigated by the local police and then by the district crime branch. Both the investigation officers gave a clean chit to accused in December.

Both the accused are absconding. “Two police personnel have been suspended. Further probe will be conducted,” said SP, Gonda.
