Alwar region in Rajasthan forms part of Mewat region which cuts across Rajasthan and Haryana. We have earlier reported that Mewat is a hotbed of organised crime, cattle smuggling, illegal Rohingyas and mob violence.

The Rajasthan Police has seized a vehicle carrying four cows while it was on its way from Dotana to Jaroli in Rajasthan. Tijara Police arrested two cow smugglers while the other two managed to flee away. On Sunday morning at around 11:30 am, police head constable Mohanlal and Vijay Singh acting on the specific information put a blockade at a short distance past the Jaroli bus-stand. After a while, a pick-up car carrying 4 cows emerged which was stopped by the police and the cattle rescued.

Speaking to OpIndia, the police confirmed that while the two sitting in the cabin were arrested, the other two jumped in the adjoining fields and ran away. The police rescued 2 adult cows and 2 calves from the pick-up car. The cattle were reportedly being smuggled to Haryana. The two caught were identified as Rakesh Meghwal (300 and Ramchandra Meghwal (50) from Rewadi and Kotkasim districts respectively. On interrogation, the two revealed that the cattle were being smuggled from the Kotkasim to an abattoir in Haryana for slaughter.

The other two who are absconding in the case were identified as Khalil and Bicchi from Jaroli district. As the head-constable Mohanlal stopped the pick-up car for questioning, Khalil and Bicchi allegedly jumped in the nearby field and escaped the place of incident. Police have filed an FIR under section 5, 6 and 8 of the Rajasthan Bovine Animal Act against Ramchandra, Rakesh and the remaining 2 absconders. Police are on a lookout for them. The rescued cows and calves were sent to a Gaushala.

In December 2018, a similar case of cow smuggling and slaughter had surfaced. In the Tijara area of Alwar district, police raided Nisar named man’s house in the Arandka village and recovered flesh and skin of the cows. The police found 4-5 suspects in the nearby field sprinting away. When police went there they found about 20-22 kgs of beef lying down and cowhide of 5-6 cows from the well in the nearby field.
