AMRITSAR: Pakistan’s controversial Sikh leader Gopal Singh Chawla has stirred yet another controversy by distorting the image of Khanda – the insignia of Khalsa, printed on a Eid greetings poster uploaded by him on his Facebook page on the eve of Eid celebrations.
Already in the eye of storm for fanning anti-India and pro-Khalistan sentiments, holding demonstrations against India, delivering venomous speeches and provoking Sikhs besides proudly proclaiming himself a friend of terror mastermind Hafiz Saeed, Chawla, a former small-time hakim (practitioner of traditional medicines), turned blue eyed boy of ISI sent Eid greetings to all Muslims through a poster with pictures of Sikh militant leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and Muhammad Ali Jinnah, founder of Pakistan with a distorted image of Khanda. The poster also carries his own photograph, signed off as Gopal Singh Chawla Khalistani.
“This is highly objectionable, no one has the right to distort or change the image of Khanda,” said SGPC’s chief secretary Dr Roop Singh while talking to TOI on Tuesday.
He demanded that Chawla take down the image from social media and tender an unconditional apology.
“In past also Chawla had been uploading provocative material on social media due to which India had objected on inclusion of certain ‘controversial elements’ in the ten member committee of Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee.“ said sources.
Notably on March 27, Pakistan’s former federal minister for information and broadcasting Chaudhary Fawad Hussain had announced the ten member committee, which included Gopal Singh Chawla, much to the chagrin of India.
Later, Pakistan government also appointed him as a non-official member of Pakistan’s Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) that looks after the evacuee properties of Sikhs and Hindus left in Pakistan during 1947 Indo Pak partition . According to reports, Indian had issued a verbal demarche to Pakistan through diplomatic channels, protesting Chawla’s appointment.
“These events are indications of elements that can work against India.”– Editor , Vedic Upasana Peeth
