NIA Conducts Raids Against PFI Activists in 20 Locations in Tamil Nadu

Chennai: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is conducting raids at 20 locations in Tamil Nadu, including Thanjavur, in a crackdown on PFI activists, stated news agency ANI. The NIA is conducting an investigation in the murder case of Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) member Ramalingam who was killed in Thanjavur district on February 6.

The FIR filed in the murder case alleges that Popular Front of India (PFI) cadres had murdered Ramalingam for allegedly opposing a group of Muslims in matters of religious conversions. The 45-year-old worked as a catering contractor in Thirubuvanam of Thanjavur district.

Recently, the murder case was taken over by the NIA. On Wednesday, the NIA inquired the Thiruvidaimaruthur police. The agency also interrogated with the family members of Ramalingam. So far, eleven accused have been arrested in the case.

Besides Thanjavur, the NIA also raided the PFI’s office in Tiruchirappalli and the offices of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) located in Trichy, Kumbakonam and Karaikal.
