NDTV Suspends Deputy News Editor For Insensitive Facebook Post on Pulwama Terror Attack, Condemns Employee’s Action

New Delhi, February 15: News channel NDTV- New Delhi Television Network, has condemned a post put up by one of its digital deputy news editor on the Pulwama terror attack and has suspended the employee in question. The company has also said that it is weighing further action against the employee. The news editor in question wrote the post on her personal Facebook page, said the statement.

In a condemnable post, the employee wrote after the horrific Pulwama attack, “Where a grisly 44 has been proven to be greater than the mythical 56,” before using a hashtag with the name of terror organisation Jaise-Mohammad.

After the Facebook post came to light, NDTV said in its statement that, “NDTV strongly condemns what a Deputy News Editor of our website posted on her personal Facebook page about the tragic and dastardly Pulwama terror attack. She has been suspended for 2 weeks, effective immediately, while the company’s Disciplinary Committee weighs further action.”

Earlier, in a similar incident, an FIR was registered against an Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) student named Basim Hilal, over his tweet on Thursday’s horrific terror attack on Indian CRPF forces in Pulwama . The student who put out the tweet was booked under section 153A IPC (Indian Penal Code) and Section 67A of the IT Act. Hilal has also been suspended by the University.

Talking on the incident, AMU Professor Omar Saleem Peerzada said that, “We’ve come to know of the highly objectionable tweet. Taking immediate cognizance he has been suspended by AMU administration.”

The student in his tweet mocked the tragic incident by borrowing a line from Uri-The Surgical Strike film, and paraphrased it to, “How’s the Jaish? Great sir.” Jaish-e-Mohammad, the Pakistan based terror organisation run by Masood Azhar claimed the responsibility for the attack on CRPF on Thursday.

At least 40 soldiers have been martyred and over a dozen seriously injured after a truck laden with explosives rammed into a CRPF vehicle which was part of the convoy. The Jaish-e-Mohammad claimed responsibility for the attack and the bomber who carried out the Fidayeen attack has been identified as Adil Ahmed Dar, a 20-year-old local belonging to south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
