Maoists extend support to Kashmir’s azadi, condemn ‘state terrorism’ by India

In what could be a grave concern for the Indian security forces, the CPI (Maoists), in its last central committee meeting in December, has adopted a resolution to support the call for independence given by the Kashmiri separatists and Pakistan-based terror groups. The party statement, written after central committee meeting at Dandakaryna zone by its spokesman Abhay, says, “Let us declare to the people of Kashmir, ‘you are not alone’. Oppose the Indian occupation in Kashmir and also oppose the state terrorism by the Indian armed forces. We support the struggle of the Kashmiri nation for Azadi!” The left-wing terror outfit also came to the support of Pakistan and said, “(We) demand to stop the war mongering, chauvinism and aggression against Pakistan by Indian forces and by Hindutva fascists to further their expansionism. We also demand to stop threatening and intimidating Pakistani artists and their citizens living in India.” The central committee met last week of December and came out with their statements, which is accessed by THE WEEK, on January 2, 2017. The CPI (Maoists) appealed to both India and Pakistan to stop deployment of heavy forces on the Line of Control, saying, “People on both sides of the LOC would be hurt by this.” It condemned Modi government for carrying “surgical strikes (though exact casualty has not been established) and taking away the birth right of people of Kashmir, which is self determination”. Maoists feel that unless Indian government understands the reality, attacks like Uri would keep happening. The link of Maoists and Kashmir-based terror groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba did come up five years back. The Central government’s open statement acknowledging the Pakistan’s role in unsettling peace in Kashmir had affirmed such reports of the past. Maoists also criticised Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s flip-flop stand on Kashmir. “Sharif’s reluctance to support the Kashmir liberation movement, his military action against Islamic groups in Pakistan and adopting of liberal economic policies in the country created huge resentment among the people of Pakistan. As a result of that, various class parties in Pakistan, which had come together in the past, are coming together again now,” the spokesman of CPI(Maoist) said. The outfit said that an alarming condition was prevailing in India as the BJP government was “trying to cash in on its anti-Pakistan policies during election in five states.” “After its defeat in assembly election in West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducheri (only consolation is Assam), the BJP and Sangh Parivar are desperately drumming up anti-Pakistan pseudo nationalist rhetoric to serve its own vested interests before election,” said the statement.
