Left govt in Kerala indulging in religious persecution: PM Modi

April  13, 2019,
MANGALURU: A day after he addressed a rally in Kozhikode, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday continued his tirade against LDF government there at an election rally in this coastal city.
The issue that Modi pitched was what he said is the continued religious persecution indulged by the Communist-led government in the neighbouring state, especially on the Lord Ayyappa issue which had left that state on the boil for a long time last year.
leave politics, court and elections on one side, Modi said it is piquant situation (in Kerala) where one cannot open profess one’s faith. “It is seen as wrong to do so there by the Communist government there. You can’t utter (Lord) Ayyappa’s name and if you do so, (government there) slaps a case and pushes you into jail,” he said reminding them that the BJP Kozhikode candidate Prakash Babu was jailed there.
In fact, Prakash Babu joined the PMs public rally after securing bail from the Kerala High Court. He was jailed on March 28 by a court in Ranni in Pathanamthitta in connection with case where he allegedly attacked a woman devotee in Sabarimala temple in November. Modi said this is a dangerous trend where people run the risk of being persecuted if they show their faith towards temples and deities they believe in and should be condemned.
