Kerala Muslim body calls May 30 a ‘black day’, retracts statement later

May 27, 2019

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Muslim Jamaath Council on Monday said that the May 30 — when Narendra Modi will take oath as the prime minister for his second tenure — will be marked as a “black day” across the state, only to retract its statement later in the day.

Jamaath Council president M Pookunju had said that the body has decided to call for a state of mourning on the day when Modi takes oath to become the prime minister of the country. Pooknuju further said that the Muslims of the state are now in danger and their security is in question.

However, when his remarks kicked up a major storm, Pooknuju retracted his statement and told Times Now that the council has only passed a resolution to offer prayers every day during the holy month of Ramadan.

Interestingly, this comes after PM Modi told the newly elected MPs at the Central Hall of Parliament to work especially for those who haven’t voted for them – an apparent reference to country’s minority.

PM Modi further said that the minorities have been cheated by the Opposition for generations and now it is time to win them over. Terming the disenchantment of minorities with the NDA, PM Modi said that it’s time to dissolve the deception and imaginary fear in which they live.
Notably, PM Modi also modified BJP’s slogan of  “sabka saath, sabka vikas” to “sabka saath, sabka vikas, sabka vishwas”.
