AP Abdullakutty, the former CPM MP, has alleged that CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan had asked the party leaders to follow the “Bengal line” of killing political enemies without shedding a drop of blood.
Abdullakutty, who is now with the Congress as its Kannur MLA, said this in an article in the Congress mouthpiece Veekshanam. He alleged that Vijayan explained that this “model” involved kidnapping and burying alive political enemies with a sack of salt on them in deep ditches. Speaking to Indiatoday.in, Abdullakutty said “he stood by what he wrote in the article” and “doesn’t think Vijayan will initiate legal proceedings against him”.

Kutty says the meeting was attended by CPM MPs P. Karunakaran, P. Sathidevi and CPI(M) MLAs from Kannur other than him.
He further goes on to say that the discussion on eliminating enemies came up when Sathidevi complained to Vijayan that they were worried about BJP’s protest in Parliament showing pictures of barbarous killings by CPM in Kannur. “Pinarayi Vijayan said that if we adopt the Bengal model there won’t be any trace of the murder,” writes Abdullakutty.
“I was shocked to hear such a comment from the state secretary. Later, when we were at Parliament, I enquired about this to West Bengal MP Anil Basu. Basu told me that what Pinarayi told was right. He said that Kerala line of killing is barbaric and in Bengal they don’t even shed a drop of blood and bury the enemies alive. He said that the outside world won’t even see a piece of bone,” says Abdullakutty. He says that he met Anil Basu along with P. Suresh Kurup, then CPM MP and present MLA of Ettumanoor.
Abdullakutty told Indiatoday.in, “What all I wrote in the article is the absolute truth.” “Though at first, I wrote about this incident in my autobiography, Ningal enne Congress aaki (You made me a Congressman), later I removed it from the book fearing a CPM attack,” says Abdullakutty. He said he will definitely include this part in the 10th edition of his autobiography which is going to be published next month.
“I wonder why VS Achuthanandan is hesitating to fight against violent methods adopted by CPM to eliminate their enemies. If Achuthanandan begins his struggle against this, the whole Kerala will stand with him in support. Pinarayi Vijayan and his team in Kannur is inhuman in their approach in eliminating enemies. Pinarayi knows only the ideology of violence and not the one propagated by Karl Marx or Lenin,” says Abdullakutty. “Pinarayi Vijayan is the one who destroys CPM in Kerala. He threatens people to conquer them. Rich people are donating money to CPM fearing Pinarayi Vijayan. Even many people from the media are afraid of him,” added Abdullakutty.
Abdullakutty said he regained the courage to tell this truth to the world because of the judgement in the TP Chandrasekharan murder case. “For the first time, real culprits had been booked in a political murder case and they were punished,” says Abdullakutty. “I am staying now at MLA hostel in Thiruvananthapuram since I fear attack from CPM in Kannur,” added Abdullakutty.
Pinarayi Vijayan replied to the allegation through a speech in Kannur on Wednesday that he never discussed any such things with Abdullakutty at any point of time. “My efforts were to take the party forward and there was no need at any point of time that necessitated a discussion with this person (Abdullakutty) on organisational matters. So there is no question of telling him that we should learn from the methodology of murders adopted elsewhere,” said Pinarayi Vijayan. CPM leaders dismissed Abdullakutty’s allegations as a ploy to grab publicity.
Abdullakutty represented Kannur Lok Sabha constituency twice when he was in the CPM. In 2009, the party suspended him for praising Narendra Modi’s development model in Gujarat. In March 2009, he was expelled from CPI(M) and in the same year he joined Congress to become MLA from Kannur in by-election in November 2009 and in 2011.
