Sunny Leone has been making the headlines for a while now. The actress has been facing protests from a pro-Kannada group for being cast in the historical drama Veeramadevi. The Kannada Rakshana Vedike Yuva Sene alleged that casting Sunny in the movie was an insult to the historical figure and has warned of a Padmaavat like protest if she was not replaced.

According to a report in the Hindustan Times, a couple of youth also cut their hands with blades for the protest to show the how serious they were. R Harish who is the groups president has stated that it’s not right to have the actress play the role of a historical character.

“Leone is popular as a porn star and such a person should not play a historical character, who is not only an icon of Kannada but also someone who built many temples,” he said.

He further added that Veeramadevi had built many temples in Karnataka and it would hurt religious sentiments of people if Sunny played the role. The activists also vowed that they will create issues in the show in Sunny’s show Bengaluru on November 3 if she does not step away from the film.

The group stated that they have bought 230 tickets for her show in the city and will disrupt if she does not stay away from the film. Harish added that “We are not against anything else, we just want her to quit this movie. Else, we will also have to protest like people in Rajasthan did against the movie Padmaavat,”

Earlier this month, members of the Kannada Rakshana Vedike had staged an agitation against Leone and burned her posters. This is not the first time her shows have faced agitation, on December 31 last year, a new years eve show featuring Leone, organised by Time Creations, was cancelled following protests.

“Would we teach our children about a Kshatriya fighter Veeramdevi framed by Sunny leone, a porn star ! All the Hindus organisations should protest against this until it is backed out . “- Editor, Vedic Upasana Peeth
