J&K: Jaish terrorist killed, policeman injured in Tral encounter, ammunition recovered

November 9, 2018

In a further setback to the Jaish-e-Mohammed, a terrorist of the proscribed outfit was killed on Friday after an encounter broke out between militants and security forces in South Kashmir’s Tral on Friday morning. A policeman was also injured during the operation and was rushed to the hospital. He is stable now.

ANI quoted sources as saying that a huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from the site. Personnel of Rashtriya Rifles, the special operations group (SOG) of the police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were involved in the encounter at Darganai Gund village, IANS quoted a police officer as saying. Authorities also suspended mobile Internet services in the area.

“Exchange of fire between security forces and terrorists at Tral. The area is under cordon,” Jammu and Kashmir police tweeted earlier in the day. The development comes days after Usman Haider, the nephew of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) chief Masood Azhar, was killed in a gunfight in Tral.

Haider was allegedly involved in a string of recent sniper attacks on security personnel and his killing was a major success for the security agencies. Haider is the second nephew of Jaish chief Masood Azhar to be killed in a year. In November last year, another nephew of Azhar’s, Talha Rashid was killed in an encounter with forces in Pulwama district.
