Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir (JandK) Omar Abdullah on Saturday said, “Today India is not as strong as it could be, because we are facing problems in numerous states, Jammu and Kashmir is not unique in that respect.” The National Conference (NC) leader while speaking at the Think Federal Conclave Session held at Kolkata said, “Whether it is the Maoist insurgency in parts of the country, problems we face in the North East or be it the Kashmir issue, the fact is the Union’s progress had been held back.” He further vouched for strengthening India’s federal character. He also said, “History is full of questions but if we had respected the agreement entered into with Union and people of JandK after accession in 1947, we wouldn’t be dealing with alienated and bloodied JandK, where our neighbor has found it so easy to make lives difficult for us.”
