In yet another attack on Hindu place of worship in Telangana, the sacred idol of Bhagwan Hanuman Ji in Sri Sivalingeswara temple in Karimabad area was vandalised. The assailants also desecrated the temple. The incident took place in Warangal district on March 14, 2020.
On Saturday morning, devotees who went to offer prayers in the temple found the damaged idol of Bhagwan Hanuman Ji. The residents and devotees filed a complaint at the local police station. The police have registered an FIR under Section 103. The Hindu believers and activists of Bajrangdal organised a demonstration in protest against the incident. The protesters demanded that the state government and police should take stringent action against the culprits.
In the recent past, the Telangana state has been witnessing a series of incidents of attacks against Hindus and Hindu temples.
On November 1, 2018, Shri Satyanarayana, the priest of the Sri Sai Baba temple, was murdered by an Islamic extremist, Syed Sadiq Hussian. On September 6, 2019, a mob of around 70 Muslims attacked women performing puja and vandalised a Ganesh pandal at LB Nagar in Warangal.
On January 12, 2020, a mob of around 400-500 Muslims attacked a Hindu colony and set their houses on fire in Bhainsa of Nizamabad district. Despite repeated and targeted attacks on Hindus, the state government has yet to be acted upon.
