A CRPF jawan was killed after suspected militants opened fire at him  in his home in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Sunday, police said.

The militants  barged into  the house of a local CRPF man, Naseer Ahmad Rather, at Naira village in the evening and shot at him injuring him critically, they said. “Naseer was rushed to district hospital Pulwama where he succumbed to injuries. Police have registered a case and investigation has been initiated,” a police statement said.

Naseer was posted with a  CRPF battalion in the district and was at home on leave. The incident comes a day after a Jammu and Kashmir policeman, who was abducted by suspected militants in Tral area of Pulwama on Friday, was allowed to return following an appeal from his mother. Special police officer (SPO) Mudasir Ahmad Lone was abducted by unknown gunmen from his village of Chankatar. He was working as a cook at Reshipora police post in Awantipore.

On Tuesday,  suspected militants opened fire at security personnel at Batamaloo near Fire and Emergency Services killing a CRPF constable and wounding another.
