Army Major killed, another officer and 2 jawans injured in Kashmir encounter

A fierce gunfight raged on in Achabal area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag on Monday.

An Army officer was killed while another officer and two troopers were injured in the encounter. As per the details, the encounter took place when the security forces had launched a cordon and search operation.

“There was an input about the presence of terrorists in the area after which we condcuted a search operation. During the operation, they opened fired at the Army officers, which lead to an encounter,” said a senior police officer.

An Army special forces convoy, on its way at Arihal village of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, was also attacked by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), locals and officials said.

The convoy was targeted by the terrorists near Eidgah Arihal on the Arihal-Lassipora road, a police official said.

Five jawans were injured in the attack. The site of the blast is 27 km from the area where a convoy carrying security personnel was attacked by a suicide bomber on February 14 in which 40 CRPF troopers were killed.
