AMU issues notice to Aligarh BJP MLA’s grandson for organising ‘Tiranga Yatra’ without permission

AGRA: The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) administration has issued a show cause notice to an LLM student, Ajay Singh, the grandson of BJP MLA Dalveer Singh, for organising a ‘Tiranga Yatra’ in the campus without acquiring permission from the competent authorities.

Confirming the move, proctor of the university, Prof Mohsin Khan said that a bike rally was organised by the students on Tuesday without taking any permission during the teaching hours of the university. This had caused disturbance to the students and hence cognizance was taken and notice issued, he said.

Khan said that Ajay had violated the AMU students’ conduct and discipline rules and that the student had been given 24 hours to submit his reply. If he fails to do so, strict action will be taken against him as per the rules of the university, said Khan.

The notice reads, “It is alleged that on your pursuance some outsiders and anti-social elements were also part of this gathering and rally. This had created fear among the bona fide students by destroying peaceful academic atmosphere of the university campus and had given a bad name to the institution”.

However, Ajay said he had sought permission from the proctor office on January 19 and they had received the application, but did not respond.
“The proctor office has no objections when students protest and raise slogans in the campus against the killing of a terrorist in J&K, or burn papers after implementation of 10 percent reservation for economically backward among the upper castes. But they have a problem when we take out a Tiranga rally with slogans of Bharat Mata Ki Jai,,” said Ajay.

He said that he will file a complaint with the Human Resource and Development (HRD) ministry against the university’s biased behaviour. The university authorities themselves divide the campus, he alleged. “We did nothing wrong in taking out Tiranga rally ahead of Republic Day,” said Ajay.
