In Vedic culture, special attention was paid to the purity of food. From the stage of food production, till the time food was consumed, several vedic rituals were performed upon the food and it was only then that both the mind and the body remained pure and it was conducive to do Sadhana(spiritual practice) and also kept the body and mind healthy. After death, after the birth of a child, while a woman was menstruating, after all these periods specific rules used to be followed on cooking the food; but today the blind imitation of satanic western culture has made food a medium to tickle the taste buds, or to just build the body and all the rituals have suffered a blow; hence, we get plagued by diseases on consuming polluted food. In Kaliyug, one must do Naamjap (chanting) while cooking and eating food. – Tanuja Thakur (1.2.2011)
