Aligarh: The Uttar Pradesh Police on Wednesday booked an FIR against 14 students of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) for raising pro-Pakistan slogans.

The FIR also names AMU students union president Mohammad Salman Imtiyaz and vice president Huzaifa Aamir. Cases under Section 124-A (sedition) and nine other sections of the IPC have been filed against the AMU students.

The complaint was filed by BJP Yuva Morcha activist Mukesh Lodhi, alleging that the university students assembled around his vehicle while he was driving across the AMU circle. As per Lodhi, the students launched a murderous assault and raised ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans.

In the wake of sedition charges, a “boycott class” call was given.

Meanwhile, security has been beefed up outside the AMU campus. The main approach road leading to the AMU campus at IG Khan crossing was shut as a precautionary measure. Official sources suggest that Internet services will be disrupted in the city in a bid to maintain law and order situation.

A senior cop, meanwhile, said the Rapid Action Force was stationed around the university campus amid other protests, including one in which a bike belonging to an ABVP member was set ablaze.

Meanwhile, the AMU has circulated an advisory, asking students “not to move out of campus as a precautionary measure”.
