UP Cabinet at Prayagraj Kumbh Mela: Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram Shashi Tharoor, on Tuesday, took a jibe at UP CM Yogi Adityanath saying, Kumbh Mela is the place to ‘cleanse sins’.
New Delhi: Hours after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his Cabinet took a holy dip in the Sangam at Prayagraj, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor took a jibe at the group and said that ‘everyone is naked’ at the Sangam’. Taking to Twitter, the Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram also said that ‘this’ is the place for cleansing ‘sins’.
“Ganga bhi swachh rakhni hain, aur paap bhi yahi dhone hain. Iss Sangam mein sab nange hain. Jai Ganga Maiya ki!” he said in a tweet. Tharoor’s comment is also being viewed on the backdrop of speculations that Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi would be kicking off her political rallies after taking a dip in the Sangam at Prayagraj Kumbh Mela.
On Tuesday, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet held its meeting at the Prayagraj Kumbh Mela. Later, CM Adityanath and other ministers took a dip in the Sangam and also visited Akshayvat and Saraswati Koop. Interestingly, besides clearing the proposal to construct the longest — 600 km Ganga Expressway — the Cabinet also decided to make film Uri tax free. “Cabinet has decided to make Ganga-Expressway, to connect Prayagraj with Western Uttar Pradesh. This will be the world’s longest expressway, approximately 600 km, it will take 6,556 hectares of land, it will cost approximately Rs 36,000 crore,” Adityanath said.
Politicians have been lining up at the Prayagraj Kumbh Mela ahead of the general elections 2019. On Sunday, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav took a dip in the Sangam and said that the Mela was also organised during his tenure.
