Meghalaya HC judge Justice SR Sen, in the eye of a storm over his “observation” that India should have been declared a Hindu country during Partition, clarified on Saturday that he never meant to challenge the country’s secularism.
Justice Sen said, “Whatever is the truth, history and ground reality, on that basis I have written my judgment to save the citizens of India irrespective of caste, creed, religion or language and people should understand the history of India and live in peace and harmony.” Disposing of a petition by A Rana, who was denied domicile certificate by the state, Justice Sen had on December 10 said, “Pakistan declared itself as an Islamic country and India since was divided on the basis of religion should have also been declared as a Hindu country but it remained as a secular country.” The remarks had sparked a debate.
“Secularism is one of the basic structures of our Constitution. It should not further be divided on the basis of religion, caste, creed, community or language… I would also like to clarify here that in my judgment, nowhere I have said anything against secularism and my judgment makes references to the history and one cannot change the history,” he clarified.
“Mr. Sen said right thing but our pseudo secularist secularists can’t digest a single word that raise a hand to the welfare of any community except muslims. ” – Editor, Vedic Upasna Peeth
