Singer Shaan on Guwahati heckling incident: It was unfortunate but I have moved on

October 30, 2018

Popular singer Shaan was on Sunday heckled at a concert in Guwahati. After the singer crooned a Bengali song, an audience member threw a paper ball at him. The person also, reportedly, asked him to stop singing and shouted ‘This is Assam, not Bengal.’

When indianexpress.com reached out to Shaan, he said, “I don’t really want to fan the incident further. It was an unfortunate moment. What happened was a little disappointing and I couldn’t help but react on stage. But I have moved on from the incident and don’t want to further talk about it. All I want to tell young people is that don’t politicise and create a barrier between a state and culture.”

A video doing the rounds on social media shows Shaan getting furious after a paper ball drops beside him on stage. He picks it up and shouts back at the crowd asking them not to create a political issue. The “Chand Sifarish” singer also tells the audience to never disrespect a performer. Shaan further says, “If you don’t like it, you can go away. I had a high fever. I am on antibiotics. And still, I am here performing all night for you.” The disappointed singer was seen bidding goodbye. However, after a while, he resumed his gig for the cheering audience.

Post the incident, Shaan took to his Twitter account to clarify his side. He posted a series of tweets about the incident. Shaan shared, “Just for the records …loved my Assam Tour!! Saw the most fascinating sights…made new friends..had huge turnouts at every concert.. Over one unfortunate incident it would be VeryWrong to Tarnish this Beautifull State!!! Whatever happened was in the heat of the moment (sic).”

While replying to an apologetic fan from Guwahati, Shaan wrote, “My outcry was not directed to that One Individual but to all who are harbouring these ‘Regional Devide’ Sentiments!! The Youth must not fall into this trap #StayUnited (sic).”

“And who has created this difference between two states of a country ? We have reached sach a low now that two people of a same country hates each other and all this is the result of politicians’ greedy and sinful acts and that’s why a hindu nation is needed to unite all the hindus !”- Editor, Vedic Upasna Peeth
